The Background to the Creation of F**k It Yoga

John speaking –

“A while back I developed a problem with my achilles heels (having plodded around in sandals for too long), and this led me into doing regular yoga-like stretching.

And I really rather liked them.

So I added some more yoga (with the help of a great yoga teacher, Meg Jackson) and some Qigong.

And, as well as helping with the heels, I found (to my delight) that this mixture was getting me to a ‘F**k It Space’ in a very effective and powerful way.

And getting into this ‘F**k It Space’ – when we’re really relaxed no matter what is going on, when we’re lighter about life, when we simply feel good and calm – is what really interests me.

So the thought arose…

Why not teach people this special form of yoga, with the aim of taking people to this powerful F**k It State?
It will contain the beautiful yoga that people are familiar with, but take people to this unfamiliar space.

So I’ve got together with aforementioned yoga teacher – Meg Jackson (founder of ‘Real Life Yoga’ in London). And we’ve put something together that’s both familiar and brand new.

And you’re going to love it.

Welcome to…

The intention of the teachers is to create an opening for transformation in the students.  You will have a better and lasting knowledge about the methods described in the Yoga Sutras. That will lead to a confident and committed self practice.

YogicMoments retreats always include theory, practice and private sessions. Yoga as described by the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali will be presented as a tool for personal transformation. The importance of understanding the yoga philosophy as a framework for various practices including asana, pranayama, concentration and meditation. Both, the theory and practice, are step by step processes, developing building blocks necessary for a suitable, self yoga practice.

Mild Stretch:

Introduction of the Vinyasa Yoga principle – that is the combination of breath and movement. The practice sequence starts with Pranayama, in a sited upright position where the mind is absorbed into the breath. The following Asana practice will be of mild nature. The primary focus lies on the breath. The practice ends with few moments of peace and reflection

Hip and Twist:

The practice starts once again with Pranayama. We will discuss specific principles of alignment for a safety of the hips and spine. The Asana sequence will be deepened with a clear focus on hips and twists. Preparation of hips and twists (Vinyasa Krama): mild hip openers and twists will lead to more advanced poses.

Back & forth:

The Asana practice will be further deepened whereas the focus is on backbends. We will discuss the principles of alignment for safety of the spine in backbends. Preparation for backbends (Vinyasa Krama): strengthening, lengthening & backbending. This time the practice ends with pranayama and meditation.

Upside down:

The Asana practice is characterized by balances and inversions. In this context, sattvic lightness is essential in order to remain effortless in (arm) balances and inversions. Pranayama and meditation will complete the practice.

Deep Stretch:

A Vinyasa Asana practice will be provided that includes all aspects, which have been introduced the days before. That means hip-opener, twists, backbends, balances and inversions will constitute a holistic and well-balanced yoga sequence. Pranayama and meditation complete the asana practice.

Gentle Stretch:

The practice starts with Pranayama and deep breath control. From there we pass on to a gentle Vinyasa sequence, which though considers all previously introduced (Asana) categories.

Closing Flow:

At the end, a mild Vinyasa sequence will underline the importance of breath and meditation, which is / should be ultimately the primary goal of each practitioner.
